Subterranea is a post-apocalyptic play about survival in the underground Metro stations of Newcastle in 2029, five years after a nuclear attack. The play was written by Lucy Curry and Carl Wylie, and co-directed by Curry and Paula Penman. It was performed at Laurels Theatre in Whitley Bay

The play is about the world being divided into "The Above" and "The Below"."The Below" are those who took shelter in the underground Metro stations after the attack, while "The Above" remain above ground. The play follows Sophie, Charlie, and Jean, a family who have created a life in the underground tunnels. Their lives are thrown into disarray when Sophie becomes pregnant and Charlie takes on a dangerous new job.
